"Just Wanted You To Know"

A few weeks ago, I got a last minute call from the boys in the Canadian band The Hunter Brothers. They were on a writing trip in Nashville, and they wanted to know if there was any chance I could join them to write a song that day.

Ty, the lead singer, had been up all night percolating a song idea, and he felt like it was one that we just had to write together, along with fellow co-writer Robyn Collins. “It’s right up your alley, Victoria,” he said. “We have to write this one with you.”

A few hours and many (good) tears later, we had written “Just Wanted You To Know”. “Boy, that just felt like a message coming through us, didn’t it?” we all said. “Someone out there must need to hear this one.”

Little did we know how much WE would need this song in the coming weeks. Shortly after it was written, my family’s home in East Nashville was struck by an F3 tornado and damaged pretty significantly. My husband had to get reconstructive surgery to repair the broken nose he suffered while trying to get the kids out of their bedrooms in the pitch dark when the power went off, the windows all blew in and the neighbor’s roof tore across our house and totaled both of our cars in the middle of the night, leaving us all with PTSD and one of the few houses left (thankfully) standing on our street.

A few weeks after that, we found ourselves sequestered with the kids under a stay-at-home order in the tarped and boarded-up house, with the performing income that feeds our family gone due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

So…yes…I really needed to hear this song when the Hunter Brothers released it as an online video during social isolation and sent it out to the world. So if you’re out there hurting too…the video below is for you. (And if you enjoy the song, please consider buying me a coffee using the button below!)
