"Dashboard Jesus"

It’s a beautiful thing when a song that you write stands the test of time. This morning, Carly Pearce released “Dashboard Jesus” - a song I wrote 8 years ago with Emily Shackelton and Sara Haze - on her sophomore self-titled album.

It’s a song about believing in your dreams even when the people around you don’t. It’s about taking a risk and betting on yourself despite the odds. And it’s about having faith that the universe is looking out for you.

There are times in my life that I wish I could re-visit; times when I lost my faith and faltered in my belief that I was on the right path. If I could time-travel, I’d go back and tell the girl I was that everything was going to be OK. So when I’m faced with insurmountable odds or I’m pulled towards a destination that doesn’t make sense to the world around me, I know if that my future self could come back in time, she would tell me the same thing.

Here’s to all the against-all-odds believers out there. This one’s for you!
