From Voice Memo to Sara Evans Album: Evolution of a Song

Want to hear the original voice memo that inspired a Sara Evans song? How about the “work tape” that was captured in the room by the songwriters the day it was written? Or the demo, recorded in a single take by Nashville’s finest session players? Well, I ain’t ashamed to share them with you!

Songs certainly don’t start out sounding the way they finish, and this one is no exception. In fact, “Gotta Have You” continued to be changed right up until it made its way onto Sara’s Slow Me Down record, with a tightened up chorus to hook the listener in more effectively.

I’ve been having tons of fun sharing these glimpses behind the scenes - as well as some unreleased songs - with my Ko-Fi club (they’re fans who are keeping food on my table by tipping me with a monthly $4 cup of coffee). Usually I share them secretly with the club, but I’ll give you a glimpse here:

Hope you enjoy it! And don’t forget to explore my Ko-fi page for LOTS more songs, ideas and stories.
